Week 1:  The Nature of your Authentic Self – Discover the freedom of your true Self

  • The concept: The "self" people identify with is largely a product of society's conditioning, our different roles in life, and the expectations of our culture.  True self-discovery involves peeling away these layers to uncover the essence of your being, which is described as pure consciousness or "no-self" – a state beyond your ego.  We constantly wear different layers of identity, or masks, and are unaware of our essential Self.
  • Technique: Through Vedic asana practices, Kundalini kriyas, yoga nidra and Vedic Dhyan meditation, you learn to be present and observe thoughts and feelings without judgment.  Our “Active Meditation” practice – a combination of breathwork, movement, and sound – releases deep-rooted emotions and energy blockages to quieten the mind and create deeper awareness.

Week 2:  Key Steps in the Journey – Awaken your awareness

  1. Awareness and meditation
  • The concept: Meditation is the basis of self-discovery.
  • Technique: Continued expansion of the practices learned in Week 1 with additional focus on the art of meditation.
  1. Acceptance of inner contradictions
  • The concept: Learn to accept both “positive” and "negative" aspects, such as anger or sadness, as they are part of your whole being.
  • Technique: The awareness created through the practices in Weeks 1 & 2 helps you acknowledge your current reality, allowing you to identify and let go of what is no longer helpful.
  1. Letting go of ego
  • The concept: The ego is a false Self that is created through society’s expectations and personal desires.
  • Technique: Through the art of meditation and mindful living (as discussed in the lectures), learn to dissolve the ego by understanding the power of giving and sharing.  The experience of this leads to a state of freedom, joy, and oneness with existence.
  1. Experiencing life fully
  • The concept: Value every moment in life, as each one holds a lesson or insight into your true Self.
  • Technique: The practices developed over the weeks teach you how to be present in each activity so that you can take this awareness into everyday life experiences.

Week 3:  Challenges on the Path – Self-discovery begins with courage

  • The concept: Self-discovery can be painful, as it involves confronting inner fears, past traumas, and society’s conditioning.  It requires letting your old Self “die”.
  • Technique:  Observe and become the witness of what is happening within during your meditation practices, and cultivate your courage to overcome the conditions of the mind.

Week 4:  The Role of Silence – The truth only unfolds in the stillness of silence

  • The concept: The Truth only unfolds in silence, so it is integral to self-discovery.  With a quiet mind, one can intuitively hear the deeper truths from within.
  • Technique: Use the methods of sound and breath practised throughout the program to redirect your awareness to the present moment and cultivate inner silence.  Yoga nidra is an excellent opportunity for you to experience your stillness.

Week 5:  Self-Discovery as a Path to Freedom – Transcend your limitations

  • The concept: Achieve liberation from society’s norms, religious dogmas, and self-imposed boundaries while aligning with the fundamental laws of nature.  Self-discovery attunes you to these laws, leading to spontaneous right action.
  • Technique: By observing and embracing every aspect of life, both around you and within you.  Experience your connection with nature with a Conscious walk.

Week 6:  Beyond Self (The “No-Self”) – Discover the ultimate freedom of pure being.

  • The concept: In the final stages of self-discovery, you move beyond the concept of the "self" altogether.
  • The state of “being”: This is a state of "no-mind"," not a void but a state of pure being – free, expansive, and connected to the Source of life through a glimpse of your silent space within.  There is no technique for this as it is the consequence of the above steps of Self-Discovery.  It comes from gradual experience according to how much you realise the need for it.

An International Retreat is a retreat for a yoga program or Ayurveda program conducted by either our senior teacher, Shailendra in your country, or hosted by other qualified teachers who have obtained their teaching certification through the Vedic Yoga Centre, and who conduct classes and retreats in their own country.

In the past these retreats have been held by Shailendra-ji in different countries around the world:  Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Taiwan, Bali, Austria, France, and New Zealand.  These international retreats are a valuable inspiration for students who are unable to travel to Rishikesh, to remain motivated to continue on their yogic journey; and they all carry the same message of the Vedic Yoga Centre – how to realise and experience your yoga:  your union with your inner and outer life.

About

How to arrange one in your country

For anyone wishing to hold an International Retreat or participating in an International Yoga Festival in their country, all you have to do is contact Shailendra-ji at myvedicyoga@gmail.com or through WhatsApp +91 8755196191 to discuss your requirements so that an appropriate program can be prepared for your group (once international travel returns to normal).

What is included

Each retreat will be individually priced according to the country and the place where it is held, as well as the content and length of the program.

Different countries around the world have different requirements for allowing a yoga teacher from India to hold a yoga program in their country, so you will need to research your own country’s requirements in this regard if you are interested in hosting an International Retreat with Shailendra-ji as the senior teacher.

For retreats in Russia, Ukraine, France and Australia, you can contact the teachers from our other centres

Traditional teachings for modern times

The practices we offer present a holistic approach to the concept of yogic, Tantric and Vedic practices and understandings, which encompass one’s total well-being through a range of different systems, and are collectively known as Vedic Yoga – yoga in its traditional, pure form, without any dilution.  Its essential focus is how students can redirect their awareness back to its source – to the soul, so that they can experience what it means to be complete.  It is a traditional science based on the teachings of the Vedas which were written approximately 1500 to 1000 BC.  The Vedas show us how to return to our true nature through various methods and techniques which have been tested throughout the ages.

Our Centre offers different sets of yogic practices which include kundalini kriyas (also known as samyak kriya, or Tantric kriya), hatha yoga (asanapranayamabandhamudra and yoga nidra), and Vedic dhyana – the ancient Himalayan approach to systematically developing your concentration (dharana) so that you can to experience the higher state of meditation (dhyana).

We specifically offer the Himalayan traditional teachings – the Himalayan Living Wisdom, and the art of conscious living.  The various methods are delivered in a way that help students to learn to live without fear, and become spontaneous with life so that they can experience that their life does not need to be a struggle, but can become one of joy and bliss.

AYURVEDA

The Ayurvedic experiences that we offer, show alternative methods for participants to detoxify their body and mind, as well as provide an understanding of both the theory of Ayurveda and its practical application in day-to-day life.  It also shows how these can be combined with the yoga practices that we offer, for overall health and well-being.

SACRED WALKS

The presence of the Himalayas is a centre of non-verbal teachings – from the ages spiritual seekers, practitioners have come to the Himalayas for solitude, and to develop and raise their inner consciousness.  For thousands of years these mountains have been recharged with the spiritual vibrations of these yogis, masters and sages.  The Himalayas welcome all people.  Receiving the teachings of the Himalayas does not require any intellectual understanding about the Himalayas themselves or these teachings – it requires only the sincerity and presence of mind of the seeker.

The Centre offers these Sacred Walks as an opportunity for all students to receive the grace of the Himalayas.

Holistic Experiences

All of our different programs offer a systematic and holistic approach for students to work with the different layers of their existence.  They guide students from the gross (the physical) to their subtlest level of existence, allowing them to realise and experience that they are deeper than their physical body.

In addition, students learn that all of the practices have one and the same purpose:  to holistically integrate the mind, body and spirit, which awakens in them the ability to live their yoga in all dimensions of life, on a moment-to-moment basis, and gives them an attitude that will help them to servelove and surrender – these three attributes incorporate the fundamental philosophy and vision of our Centre.

Philosophy and Vision

Our Philosophy

At the Vedic Yoga Centre our fundamental philosophy and vision is based on how you can maintain your awareness from moment-to-moment so that you can experience your union through the different circumstances of life.  Then your own genuine experiences will awaken your faith from within, which will transcend your understanding of the philosophy into your experiences so that you don’t simply understand or just believe them.

We aim to make students aware that the Truth resides within themselves, and by integrating the body, breath, mind, senses, energy and emotions through systematic training, discipline and determination, they can experience equanimity which can help them to redirect their awareness from outward to inward – back to its Source.

We are not simply offering academic lessons on the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Patanjali Yoga Sutras or other philosophical scriptures.  Our aim is to enable students to learn how all these different aspects of the philosophies can help them to access their inner nature.  All of these philosophies have come from the rishis, yogis and sages who were the spiritual scientists, and whatever they have been given has come from their genuine experiences.  All we need to learn how to tune our consciousness so that we can connect with these teachings at a deeper level.

The Vedas are the wisdom, and the practices are the tools which help to awaken this wisdom within you.  The result will bring harmony between your thoughts, emotions and actions, which helps you experience a life without fear, and one of peace, happiness and contentment.  It helps you to live in harmony with nature and your surrounding environment, and helps you to experience oneness in all of your relationships.

Yoga is the underlying thread of all different spiritual traditions which unites them all as One.  This One is not a numerical one – it is the Infinite One.

Our Vision – An ancient yogic vision for modern times

The vision of the Vedic Yoga Centre is to connect the ancient yogic teachings to the present times by becoming aware of the difference between your understanding and your experience.  This experience can be realised through the integration of all the different aspects of yoga into one thread, which has one essential purpose:  to experience one’s total well-being.  Instead of just passing information on to students, it offers a systematic approach for dealing with the complexities of modern life, and focuses on how they can transform their lives as their yoga becomes their living experience.  The teachings do not ask you to believe anything; they are simply focused on initially understanding the practices, and then applying them to themselves so that their belief comes from their own experience. Understanding is the initial step which inspires and motivates you, so that you can continue and become consistent in your practice and experience the teachings; then they become a part of your actions, and begin to transform your life.

Come and join us for one of our programs to experience this vision.
