Vajrasana

Thunderbolt pose

Vajrasana (thunderbolt pose) also known as Adamintine Pose, helps in digestion and effective in improving blood flow to the nerve centre.

How to do Vajrasana?

  1. Sit on knee-bending position with the big toes together and the heels apart.
  2. Lower the buttocks onto the inside surface of the feet with the heel touching the side of the hips.
  3. Place the palms on the knee, keeping the back straight. Eyes are closed, and completely relax your body, focusing on the breath.
  4. Breathe normally throughout.

Awareness during Vajrasana ?

  1. Physical: On the normal breathing process which brings tranquility to the mind if practiced with the eyes closed. Concentration on the spine and the breath.
  2. Spiritual: On Manipura Chakra.

Contra indications

  1. Recent knee surgery.

What are the benefits of Vajrasana ?

  1. Sitting in this asana for 5-10 minutes after a meal promotes digestion.
  2. Helps get the blood flow to the nerve centres.
  3. Has a beneficial effect on knee joints and muscles.
  4. Helps with menstrual irregularities.
  5.  Good for sciatica.
