About Kailash Manasarovar

This sacred mountain Kailash Manasarovar is one of the most powerful places on earth, and most people who visit it do so through a spiritual calling. It stands 21,778 feet high, located in the Himalayas in the remote Southwestern corner of Tibet. It is one of the highest parts of the world and the source of four mighty rivers of Asia — the Brahmaputra, the Sutlej, Ganges and the Indus. It is also one of the most significant spiritual spots in the world, with thousands of pilgrims from different religions paying homage to it each year. However, only those who have discipline and dedication will be able to overcome the challenges required of this trek - for those that can achieve this, the experience will be life-changing.

Different religions and cultures consider this area sacred for many different reasons:

  • Hindu legend has it that the the holy Manasarovar Lake at Mount Kailash was first created in the mind of the Lord Brahma.
  • Hindus also believe that Mt Kailash is the abode of Lord Shiva, the holy centre of the earth and the manifestation of heaven itself.
  • Tibetan Buddhists believe that Kailash is the home of the Buddha Demchok who symbolizes supreme harmony.
  • For Tibetan ‘Bons’, Mount Kailash is their spiritual seat of power.
  • Jainists believe Kailash is the place where the creator of their faith, Rishabhadeva, attained freedom from the cycle of life and rebirth.

Just 20 kilometers from Mount Kailash, the sacred Manasarovar lake that lies at a height of 15,015 ft, is known for its healing properties and is believed to wash off all mortal sins.

For these reasons a trip to Kailash Manasarovar is an intense spiritual experience.
